About
I was born in Saskatoon and my family lived here before moving to rural Saskatchewan for work. I was raised and went to school in small town Saskatchewan as my single mother taught in various schools. We would visit my grandparents and aunts in Silverwood at least monthly, most of my extended family living within our riding even to this day. I moved back to Saskatoon in 2016 where I met my husband. We moved into Greystone Heights just over two years ago when we purchased our first home.I often write letters or attend protests when the government makes harmful decisions or attacks our rights. I attended and participated in protests when the Sask Party submitted their school naming and bathroom policies, as these policies cause great harm to young members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. In my personal life I work to create welcoming and safe spaces. Within my local community I have hosted maker's meets to gather local artisans and foster a community between them. It is a joy to help uplift others and showcase their skills. Whenever issues arise I am proud to speak up for those who may have a quieter voice. This is something I do in my personal and professional spaces when I stand up for my coworkers. We need to refute the concept of unskilled labour or that certain work is intended only for kids. Retail, food service, and childcare do take a specialized set of skills and draw a diverse group of workers. My co-workers range from younger than myself to post retirement. They range from still in high school to having multiple degrees. There's no real set reason as to why some of these people are working these jobs. It's truly a mosaic of people from all walks of life and I believe they deserve a voice just as much as anyone else. These jobs have unique challenges associated with them. Pay is frequently minimum wage. Benefits can be decent, but are often non-existent or inaccessible. I've worked in many different positions and none of the benefits offered to me were the same. Paid sick leave is non-existent, especially in grocery and food service where hygiene should be paramount. As the benefits from the government increase, it seems like it gets easier and easier to forget these facts. We cannot forget about these, allegedly unskilled, labourers. All workers deserve access to a good job, good benefits, and a comfortable life. It is the duty of the government to see to it that they are not exploited and are provided these modern day minimums. It is becoming increasingly difficult to afford a comfortable life in Canada. Many families are having to go into debt just to afford essentials like groceries and clothing. The already thin budgets of those on fixed income are being stretched further and our government is not taking action to hold those responsible accountable. I believe no one should have to make choices between buying groceries or paying their rent. Further, we should be able to have leftover income for vacations, culture, and other small luxuries. Young people should not be waiting on a windfall in order to afford their first home.I believe it is important to show young people that politics are important. As a teenager, I shied away from polarizing topics for fear of confrontation. There's an unspoken rule in many circles, that you don't bring politics up for fear of a fight breaking out. I disagree with this as discussions about politics are important to have. Politics apply to absolutely every aspect of our lives and having a healthy dialogue is important. Not everyone realizes how much impact their voices and votes can have on the lives in their community.I am a young person and regular worker, though I see neither of these as negatives. I have worked all my life for everything we have and I believe Ottawa needs more people like me. I now hope to be able to work hard for you as your nominee.
